Class Description

BEGINNER ROCK BAND - Ages 7-11
1-hour rehearsals, once each week.

ROCK 101 - Ages 12-17
90-minute rehearsals, once each week

Beginner Rock Band and Rock 101 are professionally-instructed rock band classes, which take place in Music Training Center's in-school theaters.

Students are taught to perform together in a rock band that exhibits the student's individual and collective talents.

The students choose a set list of 3 to 6 songs, and rehearse under professional direction, once each week, for a 10-week term.

At the end of the term, the students perform two concerts - First, a concert of the full set list in Music Training Center's theater, then a 1-song performance at WXPN World Cafe Live as part of an all-day lineup featuring all MTC bands plus the Rock 101 All-Stars.  The final concert is a tremendous experience for the kids to see other kids perform.

Instrumentation

Each class is limited to a maximum of 3 guitarists, 1 bassist, 1 keyboardist, 1 lead singer, 1 saxophonist, and 2 drummers.

A second lead singer may be added by mutual consent of both singers.  Any other band members may sing backup vocals.

The stage has two full drum kits.  When 2 student drummers are enrolled, the drum coach may rotate alternately with each student drummer during rehearsals, so the student drummers will play at some times and observe the drum coach at other times.  Both student drummers perform in the entire show along with the drum coach (if needed) who plays on a 3rd drum kit.

Rock 101 All-Stars

The most advanced students from each school will be offered spots in the All-Star band.  This band will have 5 separate rehearsals during the term at no additional cost, and will have extra performance slots at the final concert at World Cafe Live.
